About Us
What started in a college dorm room in 2001 has grown into 25 years of helping families find exceptional caregivers.
Through the years, our business has evolved, but our commitment to meaningful relationships, thoughtful matching, and doing what's right for the families and caregivers we serve has never changed.
Our story
Caring for children has always been a part of my life.
I started caring for children when I was 11 years old. Over the years, I worked as a mother's helper, babysitter, nanny, teacher and household manager. I loved the children I cared for, and many of those families became an incredibly important part of my life.
When I started college at UNC Greensboro, I had a problem. I couldn't possibly continue babysitting for all the families who depended on me and be successful in school. I also couldn't imagine leaving them without someone they could trust.
So, I did what any resourceful college student would do. I ran up and down the dorm halls asking, "Does anyone babysit? Does anyone like kids?"
Not exactly the most sophisticated business plan, but it worked! Ha!
Before I knew it, I was connecting families with wonderful caregivers, and in 2001, Preferred ChildCare was born.
Twenty-five years later, so much has changed, but the heart of what we do hasn't.
Today, our team helps families throughout North Carolina find exceptional nannies and family assistants through personalized matching, comprehensive screening, and thoughtful support.
As a mother of four I have had wonderful caregivers in my own home, and I have experienced firsthand what it means to have someone you trust caring for your children. I know the relief that comes from finding the right person and how much that relationship can mean to an entire family.
One of the greatest joys of these 25 years has been watching the relationships between families and caregivers grow. I have watched children grow up, families change, and nannies become such meaningful parts of their lives that those relationships continue long after the childcare years are over.
That's the part of this business I will never get tired of.
I am incredibly proud of what we have built, grateful for the families and caregivers who have trusted us over the years, and especially thankful for the people who have helped make Preferred ChildCare what it is today.
We are excited you found us and hope you will become a part of PCC. We would love for you to be a part of the story that inspires us every day!
